Emma Dickman, Cerebral Palsy
Emma was born 13 weeks early, weighing only 2lbs14oz. After 72 life changing days in the NICU, we were able to bring her home. One week before her first
birthday she was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Due to her CP, she deals with many physical challenges, but she meets those challenges with a smile and
determination like no other. This summer Emma underwent major spinal cord surgery. This surgery will hopefully allow her to walk, which is her greatest
dream.
Since her surgery, Emma has received 3-5 hours of strenuous physical therapy each week. She works harder than most adults we know. Emma's well-known catch
phrase is, "I did it!" She's often described by others as inspirational and determined. Emma's biggest fan is her 5-year-old brother Owen. He supports and
pushes her every step of the way. We as parents are so blessed to have them in our lives.
Ever since Emma was discharged from the NICU, the numerous professionals from Nationwide Children's have been making sure Emma gets everything she needs. Emma has been receiving physical therapy ever since she was an infant and continues to make progress. The Dickman family feels truly blessed to have Nationwide Children's Hospital within their reach.
