Giving Back by Naming Nationwide Children's the Beneficiary of Her IRA
Kathy Gilliland is pictured here with her business partner, Jason Lee and Jason's nephew, Ethan. Ethan was diagnosed with leukemia. Kathy recently made a
planned gift to Nationwide Children's because she has seen the importance of a strong pediatric cancer program for Ethan.
Kathy Gilliland, principal of Gilliland Lee Financial Group, has been a financial planner for more than 27 years. It has been her privilege to help many of
her clients create financial plans that help secure their family's future while providing a nonprofit organization much-needed revenue, leaving a legacy
that will last for generations to come. Kathy recently made such a gift herself, naming Nationwide Children's Hospital as the beneficiary of her IRA.
"From the financial planning standpoint, making a nonprofit the beneficiary of your IRA, particularly if you are single, makes a lot of sense,"said Ms.
Gilliland. "There is such a joy in giving, and the nonprofit gets the proceeds tax-free, directly benefiting the mission.
Kathy grew up in Lancaster, Ohio, and now lives in the Powell area. Her business partner's nephew, Ethan Scharver, was diagnosed with childhood leukemia 3
½ years ago. Kathy has seen first-hand the importance of a strong pediatric cancer program for Ethan. "I've watched Ethan battle this disease, and I
am so thankful that Children's has been here for him and his family," she said. "When you see firsthand the difference that Children's makes, you want to
help.
