Magi McCullough: Fighting Cancer With Courage and Compassion

Magi McCullough: Fighting Cancer With Courage and Compassion

Magi McCullough is a very special kid. She is 12 years old and has lymphoblastic lymphoma, a very dangerous form of cancer. She is receiving chemo and has had to endure a great deal of pain during her treatments. It is a constant battle for her medical team to adjust her chemo treatments so that they aren't too strong for her blood and body to tolerate, but still strong enough to kill the cancer.

Now here is the very special part … during all of her pain and the setbacks she suffered, Magi decided that she wanted to help other children with cancer by raising money for Nationwide Children's Hospital. She started by collecting coins, and her passion became contagious. Magi's school sponsored an event that helped her friends and classmates raise more than $400 to give to Magi and her parents, but Magi insisted the money go to the hospital. "That's my Magi," says her proud mother.

Magi's philanthropy started long before she began collecting coins, in fact. When she was receiving her chemo treatments or monthly spinal taps, Magi was awarded toys for bravery. Instead of keeping them, Magi insisted the hospital keep them for other children, worried there wouldn't be enough. She wanted to make sure other children were taken care of and comforted.

Magi's family knows that the road ahead is likely to be bumpy at times. They also know that Magi has the kind of inner strength and courage to beat cancer.
